Join LBHS for Legacy of Spirit Night on Friday, Nov. 1, where seniors and kindergarteners will come together for a heartwarming school spirit exchange, with seniors passing down a special spirit token to our youngest students before the big game—don’t miss this exciting new tradition!

The Board of Education has approved the concept for an estimated $19 million, 45-meter pool modernization project at LBHS during its regular meeting on October 10. The modernization, a critical upgrade to the existing pool infrastructure, has undergone significant changes since the original plan was presented in March 2023. 

The California Department of Education released its statewide assessment results today, with Laguna Beach Unified School District ranking No. 1 among unified districts in Orange County for English language arts, math, and science scores.

LBUSD will provide a unique opportunity for students and community members to engage with local politics as students of LBHS host the 2024 City Council Candidate Forum on October 1. The event, which takes place in the LBHS Artists’ Theater from 6 to 7:30 p.m., will feature candidates Bob Whalen, Judie Mancuso, Hallie Jones, and George Weiss.

LBUSD has launched Season 4: Every Student, Every Day of the Inside LBUSD podcast, offering listeners a more personal glimpse into the lives of LBUSD staff. Through friendly conversations between colleagues, the podcast explores how their unique experiences shape the essential work they do in supporting students.

On Wednesday, September 25, El Morro Elementary will host Family Literacy Night, where students and families can enjoy reading activities and board games designed to foster a love of reading while growing their literacy skills and passion for imagination. The event will take place from 4:30 to 7:00 PM at El Morro Elementary.

LBUSD Board Policy 5131.8 restricts the use of mobile devices during instructional time, with certain exemptions. This year, K-8 campuses will enforce this policy throughout the entire school day, promoting cell phone-free environments. High school students will have limited use for essential tasks. We encourage families to delay giving children mobile devices until high school. Success in this effort depends on a strong partnership between families and school staff to foster a focused learning environment.

Assembly Bill 889 (“AB 889”) adds Section 48985.5 to the Education Code, mandating that local educational agencies inform parents or guardians about the dangers associated with using synthetic drugs that are not prescribed by a physician, such as fentanyl.

The Action for Healthy Kids and USDA’s Food and Nutrition Service have honored Laguna Beach Unified School District with the Small or Rural Food Authority Breakfast Trailblazer Award and the Small or Rural School Food Authority Lunch Trailblazer Award for improving the nutritional quality of school meals. 

LBUSD has been named to the Educational Results Partnership's "Honor Roll" as one of California’s top-performing school districts. Top of the World and El Morro Elementary have also earned places on the Honor Roll, representing the top 17 percent of all schools in CA.
