Principal's Corner

Julie Hatchel

On behalf of Laguna Beach Unified School District (LBUSD), welcome to El Morro Elementary School, home of the Sea Lions. It is an honor to serve alongside you, and the EMS staff, to bring high quality learning experiences to our students. I have served as a public educator for over 30 years, am married to a middle school science teacher, and have two children of my own.  With this multifaceted perspective, I have a deep understanding of the needs of our system and students and know that we work best at meeting these needs when we work together.

On a personal note, I am a graduate of CSU Fullerton and taught at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. I have served as a site and district administrator for over 20 years and my absolute love comes from serving as a principal.  In addition to serving as Principal at EMS, I teach for the Doctoral program at CSUF and Ed. Leadership program at Hope International University.

I encourage you to visit our website to become familiar with some of the programs and opportunities available for all our El Morro students. Please contact me or any of our support team if you need more information at 949-497-7780.

I look forward to working with you to meet our mission that each student gains the knowledge, experience, world perspectives, and skills needed to become a lifelong learner and producer in a competitive and interconnected world.
